Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is a “story portrait”?A story portrait is a meaningful, written piece that captures someone’s life, personality, and impact.
Each one includes:
A relaxed, in-depth interview (about 1–1.5 hours)
A beautifully written story
A framed print for display
A digital copy to keep and share
Think of it as a legacy piece—like a newspaper/magazine feature meets a keepsake you’ll treasure forever.
Who is this for?Anyone with a story worth honoring. So… just about everyone.
Common reasons people book:
Celebrating a parent or grandparent
Honoring a spouse or friend
Capturing a personal legacy
Highlighting a business owner or community member
Marking a milestone or life transition (wedding, graduation, new baby, promotion, big move, birthday, etc.)
If you’ve ever thought, “I wish I could bottle up who they are…”—this is for you.
What is the interview process like? It’s relaxed, conversational, and honestly kind of fun.
We’ll sit down (in person or virtually) and talk through your story. No pressure, no script, no performance required.
You don’t need to prepare anything. I guide the conversation and gently pull out the moments, memories, and meaning that make your story yours.
Most people leave saying, “That didn’t feel like an interview at all.”
How long does it take to receive the final piece?Typically, you’ll receive your completed story portrait within 4-6 weeks after your interview.
This allows time to thoughtfully write, edit, and craft something that truly reflects the heart of your story. This isn’t rushed work, it’s meaningful work. Let me know if you have a time frame in mind, I’ll do my best to accomodate.
How much does it cost?Pricing varies depending on the project, but each story portrait includes the full experience: interview, writing, and digital copy. Framed portraits (our most popular request) are $250.
If you only want the interview, writing, and digital copy to share with no frame, that is $200.
Longform biographies (typically to tell the life story of an aging loved one or someone who has passed away) take multiple interviews and start at $1300 (including booklet printing and 2 copies).
If you’re interested, the best next step is to reach out or book a conversation—I’m happy to walk you through options and find what feels right for you.
Do I need to be a “good storyteller” to do this? Not at all.
Rambling, forgetting where you were going with your point, repeating yourself, and jumping from one idea to the next are all completely normal and happen all the time. I talk like that too (which is probably why I’m a writer. Ha!).
You just need to show up as yourself.
It’s my job to help shape your story and bring it to life.
